Johan Stiernstedt is a psychiatrist and licensed psychotherapist. He has long worked as a senior physician in psychiatric outpatient care. For the past ten years, he has mainly been active as a private psychotherapist. The book is based on his experiences from both professional roles.
– My book is about a psychiatry in decline. An example of this is the increased prescription of psychotropic drugs that continued in an avalanche-like manner throughout the 2000s, especially among children and young people. At the same time, there has also been a sharp increase in the number of sick leave for psychiatric diagnoses. Both of these curves continue to point upwards, while suicides among young adults have also been rising for many years. I have long wondered whether this is reasonable, writes Johan.
