Co-workers with God

by Hans Wenström

Cardboard - 192 pages

In thinking people, a desire arises to find themselves, and thus also the meaning of existence! Despite all the welfare, in the background there is our need to feel what we call peace of mind. Increasing knowledge brings increasing needs. We who constantly live in an environment whose only identity lies in material conditions, can have difficulty finding room for the values that lie in spiritual experiences.

Humanity is currently on the verge of creating a new kind of spirituality. The new spirituality will be built around the following message: You are one with everyone, and everything in the universe – including God! Everything is part of a living system and everything ultimately consists of dust from space – so-called elementary particles – after “The Big Bang”. Everything is recycled and the cycle lasts as long as our planet exists.

Your best friend is life itself, because it never ends. When the part of your life that you are on earth is over, there will be no judgment day, no condemnation, and no punishment. What you experience then is simply a new chance for you to review all the thoughts, words, and actions of your past life – together with your spirit guides – and decide, when you move on to other adventures, and what you want to choose again when you encounter similar circumstances. Choosing is the process that makes you evolve, and finally experience who you really are, and thus become a co-worker with God!

Excerpt from the book:

"I have been a seeker in the spiritual realm since childhood. First on my own, later in life in more organized forms: Within the Church of Sweden. In later years with Ted Harries who is a priest in Adolf Fredrik's Parish in Stockholm. For a very short period within the Mormon Church. Then I became a member of the Odd Fellow Order in Södertälje. About fifteen years ago I became a member of the Eckankar Religion of God's Light and Sound."

6.4 Co-workers with God

Which of us then have the opportunity to become “Co-workers with God”? I believe that it is required, of this small few who may be considered, that they are courageous people who know themselves, live by “the golden rule” and that they live like the Bible’s “Good Samaritan”. Material things; wealth and money, status, career and so on are therefore completely meaningless in this context. A priest, in my opinion, has no greater chance than a cleaner, or a laborer, a garbage collector, that is, those professional characters who, according to old outdated tradition, we consider to have a bad status in our society, to become a Co-worker with God! I also believe that according to the Bible and Jesus’ statement, it is easier for children, or at least for people who still have a child’s mind, to get to “heaven”, actually on the “Soul Plane”, that is, the higher planes, according to Eckankar’s terminology. These people must also be strong enough to resist all negative forces, such as Kal Niranjans, according to Eckankar terminology, or the evil Satan, according to the Bible, that exist in the world today, but also cope with the attacks and aggression of non-believing aggressive people, atheists, Nazis and so on. Confrontations will not be lacking in the future, this of believing people. This is because fear will strike at the very heart of these people, their thoughts and call them false. Fear will also eat the very core of these great truths and try to erode them. But we will not find it easy to create the society that we have always dreamed of, not until our fellow human beings, with conviction and wisdom, see the ultimate truth; the one that says: “as you do to others, do to yourself”, often called the law of the Golden Rule.

Many religious communities use prayer in their practice. In Eckankar, we do not use directed personal prayer, but rather wordless prayer, such as singing “HU”, or impersonal prayer, such as: “May the blessings be” in Swedish: “Your will be done”, or alternatively: Let the blessings last”. We trust that God has better control over the situation and needs than we do ourselves and we do the best we can where we are in society. Trying to use supernatural or magical powers for private interests can have unexpected and sad consequences because we do not have the whole picture, especially not if it affects other people. We also do not have many earthly rules to follow in Eckankar, the most important are probably “Maybury’s” two laws: “Do everything you have agreed to do” and “Do not encroach on other people or their property”. They go surprisingly far and are absolutely no obstacles to a fun and uplifting life in constructive community with other people.

I believe that it takes openness and a willingness to discuss and jointly try to solve existing problems and contradictions between different groups of people and between all religions and so on. Ultimately, we all consist of stardust, dust if you will, from our creation, that is, "The Big Bang". If this does not happen, humanity is in a bad way and our religions, congregations and so on will become closed without communication with other similar organizations, they will all be considered sects, controlled by an autocratic ruler, who always knows best. We have many examples today of these systems that do not work, the state, religions and so on, which we get as a result becomes a closed terrible place to live for all of us. Our politicians have so far not shown themselves capable of solving these problems. We therefore get and have, the worst of all possible worlds. The only one who can save us from this terrible scenario is "the Creator himself", God. But does he want to? YES, he/she/it/it wants it, that is, the divine energy. God created us and "he" loves us, his children, his souls and we are all welcome home to Him/Her or It/It without exception!

An old Persian proverb speaks of “The darkest night of the soul: When water covers the head, a hundred fathoms are as much as one.” Every individual will at some point fall into a deep chasm of despair. Before our many lives in this world are over, we will all have experienced the full range of doubts, fears, sorrows, and uncertainties. Of course, life also bestows its blessings. It brings with it a certain amount of joy, satisfaction, love, gratitude, and even ecstasy that most of us can handle. Yet joy is not the Soul’s training ground. It is in our darkest moments that our faith in God and our religion is tested, whether we are ECK'ists, Jews, Christians, Muslims, Hindus, or follow any other path. The test of faith comes to us all. It comes whether we are ready for it or not and understand its value and stays with us despite all efforts to forget it. It comes nonetheless. Whether we cherish an ideal of God's goodness or not, trials still arise regardless of age or position. They just come.

Our spiritual trial always comes, perhaps yesterday, today, or tomorrow, without regard to age, wisdom, or understanding. The memories of such a trial are marked by sorrow and despair. Only time can heal such wounds. One mistake people make is to think that spiritual greats have an absolute, unwavering faith in God. But even Jesus, during the dark night of the soul on the cross, cried out, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” Does this anguished cry make Christianity any less true? Of course not. Every religion has a place in the great scheme of spiritual liberation.
