Meetings with the Ice People
- a journey of discovery in the wonderful world of ice
Anne Carlie
Cardboard; 80 pages with color photographs
It is a sparkling cold winter morning at the old sawmill. I hear the rushing and roaring of the water as it pours over the edge of the pond. During the night, thousands of water droplets have turned to ice in the cascades from the falling water. That is when I discover the amazing ice formations at the falls.
During the Christmas holidays at her beautiful cottage, archaeologist Anne Carlie unexpectedly gets the opportunity to embark on a different journey. With her camera as her companion, she begins a hike along the stream, the mill falls and the pond, to explore and document the beautiful ice crystals created by the cold. On the journey, she makes unexpected discoveries in the ice. These eventually lead her to exciting encounters with the ice people; nature beings who have taken physical form by allowing themselves to be enclosed by the ice.
Join us on a journey into the magical world of ice. Enjoy the beauty and strange shapes of the ice formations and let your child's curiosity follow you on the journey.
Votes about the book:
"Anne's book "Meetings with the Ice People" is a very fascinating and different book, which takes you on a personal journey into the wondrous world of ice formations. She talks with convincing empathy about her discoveries and reflections, which sometimes turn into amazement at what she sees in the ice along the stream and at Kvarnfallet. The beautiful pictures are appealing and stimulate the reader's imagination to look for figures among those already described. Is this fantasy or reality? she asks herself. Read the book, let your imagination run wild and judge for yourself whether or not natural beings exist. I highly recommend the book! 5 ice crystals I don't have any pictures of ice crystals but thought it was fun as an assessment instead of, for example, stars."

"What a delightful book, I can see you on my retina, with big boots on and a big smile from ear to ear looking for exciting shapes in the ice. Such beautiful pictures and, important for me when I take part in other people's creations, very inspiring. It really tickles the child's mind - out to explore nature! Your book exudes a mixture of your intelligence and exuberant fascination with the wonders of nature."

"Curiously and in wonder, the children and I encounter the ice people. We look, point, talk about and allow ourselves to be amazed by all the creatures that hide so charmingly in the ice. Reading Anne's book "Encounters with the Ice People" is like entering another world, an enchanted one.
Humbled before nature and with a big smile on my face, I want to thank you, Anne, for a fantastic book. You inspire me and the children to embark on our own journeys of discovery and curiously look for what you don't see with the naked eye at first. "
