Three generations of warrior women

Marielle Yrjas

Tears stream down my cheeks as the realization that life dances on a fragile thread strikes again. It had been close this time. The bomb fell right next to the house. She was only 11 years old and had survived another bombing while cradling her younger siblings in her calm and warm arms. The life of my grandmother, who grew up in Oslo during World War II and survived both it and poverty, has given strength to three generations of warrior women who have taken shape here to keep this invisible force alive, even for you.

Who is the woman you are seeing? That was the question asked by my mother, the answers she received from her husband were unclear, but the sadness in his voice confirmed her greatest fears. She had been deceived for several years. Not only that – the accidents now succeeded each other and almost broke her.

The silence embraced me like a warm embrace. If I had only turned the steering wheel more to the right towards the big, stately tree, it would all have been over. So had all the feelings that had tormented me since childhood. But what made me wake up was the thought of my wonderful children who would be motherless if I followed through with my plan. The realization hit me and the tears came. In this book you can follow me on my journey through life and the challenges I have overcome. Maybe you recognize yourself?

Meet three generations of women whose struggle is survival in one way or another. Join us on a moving journey where I, my mother and grandmother tell our story. We are simply warrior women in every sense, where betrayal, grief, poverty and mental illness have shaped us – and of course also the content of the story. But our feminine primal power lives on.

Marielle Yrjas grew up in central Sweden and lives with her husband and two children. Her thirst for knowledge has led her to study at university for many years, and today she runs two treatment centers for young girls together with her mother and sister. At one point in her life, she realized that she was not managing the knowledge she had acquired. – Why am I running away from life without stopping? It was the beginning of a process that changed her life. Her life experiences have taught her to respect and forgive in order to move forward.
